Jim, and fellow listers,
Some time ago, I rearranged my little "Richie's room" which is my computer room,
my office, and mainly my practice room. The walls were in need of something, and
my printer had new ink cartridges.......so......I coverd the wall behind the
computer desk with pictures.
Among these photos are TWO that you'd sent me of yourself playing "the" dobro,
Jim. Oz's dobro! The expression on your face speaks volumes, Jim. I thank you
for sharing this special memory with me.
All these recent "You Tube" postings are fascinating! Some may not be totally
appropriate for a resonator guitar list, but as a "reformed" steel player, they
brought back to me, some seriously fond memories.
I think one of the factors that affects the sound of a resonator guitar is the
amount of playing time the instrument gets. I confess I own wayyy too many of
these things, (the "family" now numbers 8), and where it's probably not in the
best interest of the instruments themselves due to humidity control
issues.....right at this moment, I look behind me and see 3 instruments on music
stands, and 3 more hanging on the wall. They all get played quite frequently,
during the "off festival" season. One of my New Years' Resolutions is to try and
learn a few things on "Dolly" my '75 OMI 8 string and the only "real" Dobro I
own. So far we've been staring at each other a lot......but hey, it's early in
the year yet.
I noticed the other night that this small room has a "resonance" of it's own!
If you make a "quick" or a "sharp" sound, there's actually an echo in here.
Life is good in Moo Hampshire,
Richie
ps everyone, having two pictures on the wall, of Jim Warren playing Oz's guitar
tends to keep ya honest! Well, sorta......
