Okay -- NOT Jerry, NOT Rob, NOT Mike -- here are a few random suggestions:
Randy Kohrs: (1) 3 Fox Drive's "Listen to the Music" CD; (2)
Continental Divide's "Feel Good Day" CD; (3) Bluegrass 2000 CD
(instrumentals); (4) Randy Kohr's "I'm Torn" CD; (5) Kate Campbell, "Blues
and Lamentations" CD (not bluegrass, but beautiful playing).
Andy Hall: (1) The Infamous Stringdusters' EP, with five tracks (Sugar
Hill-EP-0032); (2) Tyler Grant, "Into the Light". (3) Andy Hall, "Red
Wing". He's all over the Moody Bluegrass CD, too, but I don't think that's
what you're looking for.
Henrich Novak: (1) Fragment, "Meant to Be" (2) Fragment, "The Way to
Your Heart"
Todd Livingston: (1) Hit & Run Bluegrass, "Beauty Fades"; (2) Hit & Run
Bluegrass, "Without Maps or Charts".
Andy Ruff: (1) Karl Shifflet and Big Country Show, "Worries on My Mind";
(2) Honi Deaton, "Promise to a Soldier".
Josh Graves: I second the nomination of "Foggy Mountain Jamboree," and
also highly recommend the Bear Family Flatt & Scruggs box sets (the
1948-1959 set especially). I'm also very partial to "The Puritan Sessions",
with 24 tracks from two albums recorded by Josh Graves and Kenny Baker (on
guitar, not fiddle). Josh also played the most killer version of "Great
Speckled Bird" on Marty Stuart's Live at the Ryman CD -- you can hear it on
Rhapsody. I also like the "Strictly Instrumental" CD by Flatt & Scruggs
with Doc Watson.
Michael Witcher: It's a little harder to assemble a good collection of
Michael Witcher, currently represented on scattered tracks on mostly obscure
CDs. If you can get The Frontline's "Mansion of Kings," CD it has 8 tracks
with Michael Witcher, not dialed up in the mix as much as I would prefer,
but beautiful stuff.
David Dias - Silverado Bluegrass Band, "All Doors Will Open," and Mike
Nadolson, "Quicksand" (Tricopolis Records); the latter CD has notable dobro
breaks on "Muddy Waters, "In the Gravel Yard," and four other cuts with
dobro, including the title track, which is a David Dias-written
instrumental.
That's my initial cut, without having access at the moment to my iTunes
database...
