Hey Bob,
Grinning at your resentment/envy remark here. Dang I thought that Guernsey you
have was a R.Q. Jones? Duhh! That's why I like my Sho-Bros, with their wild
fretboards, I can tell 'em apart from my DeNeve real easy! (Usually.)
Let's make the Vendor's Area at Joe Val, the place to be!!!
Hey Bob, how come you say you break the FIRST string changing from G to G6th?
You gotta be doing something sneakier than me! I just wind the fourth string,
the lo D, up a whole tone to E, to get that "faux 6th" thing I do every so often.
Blackie DeNeve puts up with this rather well. I can do it 8 or 10 times or so,
till the 4th lo D breaks! I'm currently using a .035 phos. bronze in that slot.
The other guitars I own are no where near as tollerant. The Sho-Bros actually
"dare" you to raise that 4th string. It's not a problem worth adressing
tho, because Pine Hill Ramblers' tunes are for the most part so "traditional",
that there's almost no call for G6th tunings.
You mention a roller nut, Bob? Dick DeNeve was fooling with some of those
awhile back from some of his postings. How's that coming Dick, if you see this?
I recently put one of those brass guitar nuts I got (I think) from Bev King, or
Janet Davis, I forget who, on my little "play-in-the-rain" reso, and it really
kicked things up a notch.
So many variants,
Richie
