Subject:Re: [RESOGUIT-L] D Tuning

Larue! Calm down, u'r confusin' me here!

Getting from G tuning, (6 TO 1 as GBDGBD) to the D tuning (6 TO 1 as DADF#AD)
isn't all that hard. I think of it as a three step operation.

First.....drop both B strings, (the 2nd & 4th) a whole tone, or two frets, from B to A.

Second....drop the G string, (the third string) a half tone or one fret, from G
to F#.

Third.....UNWIND the low G (the 6th string) down five frets or four and a half
tones, to D

There you have it! I find you may have to "tweak" the other strings after you
unwind that low G alllllll the way down to D.

I haven't done all that much with this very interesting tuning other than figure
out how to get in and out of it reasonably quickly. I find that if I sorta
forget about the 1st string and think of the rest of the tuning as moved towards
me by one string, it plays kind of similar to the regular G tuning except for
that funky low D which is a lot of fun.

Hope this helps, I'm sorry I don't know more about this tuning, but I haven't
had a lot of time to "play" with it.

I thank Michael for the comment on the string guage regarding that 6th string.
I've thought of increasing it to a .060, but I really think it's just a matter of
getting used to the low note and lower tension.

Richie
