Jim,
I believe that the "vintage R" is a birch laminate
guitar, with a stained wood under a lacquer finish.
Kind of like the old guitars were. A few years back,
they were about $800 to $1000 less costly then the
regular R guitar.
The regular R has the same regal-sized body, but is
made of solid wood, usually mahohany, for the top and
back, and probably sides too.
