Yep. Just like that!
My first dobro was a round-neck, biscuit-cone import (when imports were
definitely lower quality). It didn't last long. The fellow who sold it to
me (and introduced me to dobros) bought a D-66 and loaned me the Mike
Auldridge Dobro album. Zap! The old one was no longer worth playing. My
then fiancé actually bought me a new D-66 (we later were married).
While I played that Dobro, I tried out many new models, borrowed some from
friends, swapped at jams, etc. Many were better than mine. When I
encountered Clinesmiths, I thought they were great. When I played a
Guernsey, I thought I'd probably get one of those. One year I played a MAS
at Wintergrass - then I started planning. The next year at Wintergrass I
played the MAS again, then I played a couple of E models. Zap! - went home
and ordered one. After 30 years, no more questions.
I still swap at jams, mostly to be nice.
Matt

I've played a lot of high end resos. They were all good...
