Sorry about the blank, I just woke up!
I'll add in reso content - I purchased Three Ring Circle from the label
website on recommendation from the list here. I would have downloaded
it had it been available from itunes, only because I am the impatient
type. Michael makes a good point as well, many things I get from
itunes I probably would not buy at all elsewhere. They may be getting
less per sale, but I am supporting more artists than I otherwise would.
I just read an interesting article on yahoo news about a young girl in
England who is also her own publisher, she recorded her own music, made
it available on Myspace, and once itunes featured her work it became
the most downloaded work there. Does anyone know if the more
established artists we listen too are exploring this method? Anybody
with good microphones, a decent computer and some high end software
like Protools can make professional quality recordings now. Not that I
want to put the publishers out of business, but I have heard the
complaint about costs Cindy Cashdollar makes from other artists. If I
were an artist these days, I'd look into forming some sort of co-op
with other artists to share the costs of the other services the
publishers provide, (the biggest being distribution I suppose - which
is radically changing because of the internet) and try to skip the
middleman. But I really don't know much about it, so pay me no mind if
I am showing true ignorance here!
Lastly I really enjoy all the music recommendations I get here, keep
them coming!
Damon
