Paul,
I don't have much experience with straps, except to say that my first strap was
a cheap music store strap that seemed pretty flimsy and did not inspire
confidence. A couple of years ago I bought a strap from Pat Sullivan, "Sully's
Straps," at http://www.sullysstraps.com/
The headstock tie is a pair of leather strips that loop around the headstock.
They are each lighter than one single strap would be, allowing more choice in
attachment. The rest of the strap is adequately heavy, with a shoulder pad.
It was also priced reasonably.
