Our jam is at a church and quiter than a bar luckly, it is acoustic mostly
unless there is no acoustic up-right bass (and we have 2 up-right basses most
weeks)we do have 2 mikes for the lead player to use. Most of the time the fiddle
players don,t even get up to the mike. If we do have an electric bass we ask them
to play using our sound system so an acoustic guitar and the hammer dulcimer
players don't get blown out. We play most everything ,bluegrass, country, rock,
folk, old time, with an average of 20 folks joining in on most all tunes.
Another jam I play ocassionally is fast bluegrass only with only one condensor
mike and mostly groups playing about 5 tunes and everyone can take a break on all
songs but there are solos and duets too. This jam is in the north Cascade MT's
and has been going for 40 years. Anyone who can play full speed bluegrass can get
in to one or several groups of 5 to 6 folks. They put on the Darrington Bluegrass
festival that is the in there 31 year something must be working.
I guess there is something out there for everyone.
