FOR THOSE WHO ARE USING WEB STRAPS, HAS ANYONE CONSIDERED USING A SMALL
SECTION OF VELCRO THAT WOULD SECURE THE LOOSE END OF THE STRAP TO THE "MAIN
LINE" ? THIS WOULD ELIMINATE ANY SLACK FROM BEING PRESENTED TO THE BUCKLE.
IT WOULD ALSO ALLOW FOR SOME ADJUSTMENT IF IT WAS NEEDED. ANY STRAP WILL
STRETCH OVER TIME. JUST A THOUGHT.

(was" Dropped my Scheerhorn")
Hi Everyone,
Been following this subject with great interest. I have Webb straps on my
two main "working" guitars, "Blackie" and "Sadie Sho-Bro", and where
"Blackie" has a tie tack holding this loose flap-end of the Webb strap
securely, ("Blackie's" decorative tie tack is also super-glued in place,) I
just checked and sure 'nuff, ol "Sadie's" Webb strap is just the way it
came, and I can see where it could slip to the point where it could fail.
In fact, I just adjusted it a bit tighter.
I see no reason why this part of the Webb strap, once you've found the
correct length for your preferences, couldn't be sewn in place to prevent
any possibility of slippage. Later on today, I plan to try and do just
that. I have a sewing machine that should handle this job
nicely.....(hopefully.)
On the other end of things, at the end block, I keep the strap permanently
secured, as one fellow with a older Dobro sent in pictures of. I also add a
flat washer to spread the load at this point on the strap. I've had a
leather strap, pull off of the end pin, and Dolly 8 string just missed
becoming a statistic!!! Not the way I prefer to get an adrenalin rush,
lemmetellya!
For those who use the Strap Loc devices, I'd think Loc-tite would be a good
idea. I think checking and re-checking the way the strap is attached to the
instrument is a better idea. Those of us who have to play standing up on
occasion, can't be too careful.
Twangs, (hopefully secure & safe ones)
Richie
ps. I always use a strap, even when sitting down, it just makes the
instrument feel more secure.
