Subject:RE: [RESOGUIT-L] STRAPLOCKS WON'T HELP THIS!! (was" Dropped my Scheerhorn") Update
Date:Tuesday, May 15, 2007  20:10:49 (-0400)
From:Steel Magnolia <SteelMaggie @........com>

Here is an update on my Scheerhorn. Tim Scheerhorn graciously sent me 6 gold
plated buttons plus a wooden button which miraculously matched the ones he
made for me in 1999. He also sent 6 gold plated buttons just in case the
wooden one did not match. He no longer had any gold plated button screws so
he sent me 6 black ones and 6 chrome ones. I also bought a Straplock from
him for the endpin. What a guy! I am so impressed with him.

Bobby Wolfe stopped by my camper at Denton this past weekend and inspected
the damage. The bridge had shifted a little to the left. He put it back in
place. What another great guy! He said he was a believer in one-piece
straps. He does not trust plastic parts at all. Maybe I should start saving
money for a custom Poff strap.

Our Dobro community is surely blessed with fantastic folks such as Tim and
Bobby and all you fine folks.

Pammy Davis

PS Hope some of ya'll can make it to RESOGAT 2007 this July 11-15 in
Wilkesboro NC
www.resonateur.com
This is a continuation of the gathering of folks that used to meet at the
Dopyera's place in Pennsylvania in July a few years ago.

Scheerhorn")

Wow Kathy, I'm glad I'm not your guitar! I mean re: the getting dropped
part of it's life....geez. When I got "Blackie" DeNeve, she came to me with
a strap lock, but, in order to put the guitar in it's case, you had to take
the strap completely off, because the strap lock stuck out too far for the
guitar to fit. It was a nuissance.....just something else to deal with at
gigs, etc.

I put up with this for over a year, because I'm slow and I'm lazy, but
finally one day while changing strings, I got the screwdriver out, I removed
the strap lock completely, then I took the metal piece off another guitar
that the strap would normally fit over, and used it on the DeNeve, I ALSO
ADDED A METAL WASHER TO MAKE A BIGGER FOOTPRINT ON THE STRAP ITSELF,
tightened the whole thing down, and the strap has been securely attached to
"Blackie's" bottom ever since! I do check this when I change strings which
is quite frequently. It hasn't loosened up yet.

I was quite surprised to realize, after reading all the recent postings
about this very important subject, to notice that on "Sadie" my #1 Sho-Bro,
who also wears a Webb strap, the large buckle that's behind your back, and
is meant to be the main length adjustment, was ACTUALLY CAPABLE OF SLIPPING,
and if left unattended and unadjusted long enough, could actually come
apart, resulting in disaster!

Short work with a sewing machine yesterday, fixed this forever. I ran a
seam back and forth, both at the loose end, to secure it, and also right
behind the buckle itself, so that thing will never move again, EVER!
There's enough adjustment at the smaller buckle at the peg head end, to
provide a comfortable fit, and if someone else plays one of my
instruments....well....they'll have to deal with it.

Now Kathy, about the "running into tables" part......sorry, can't help you
there......but I'll try and keep an eye on you at the Reso-Summit. Seems a
small favor to do for Larue's teacher.......

Ducking for cover in Moo Hampshire,

Richie

ps, I also own a "reso-mutt" guitar, that I think someone built from a kit?
It says "dobro" on it, but if this thing is a Dobro, I'm JD!!! It wasn't
glued together all that well, (fortunately as it turns out,) because it's
previous owner...... DROPPED IT ON A CONCRETE FLOOR....... one night, at the
jam I go to on Thurs. nights. MAJOR OWCHIES!!!!! The little "mutt" guitar
went straight down and when it hit the concrete floor, it literally
exploded!!! Eventually this guitar, still in pieces, and now with no
hardware, found it's way into my clutches, and it's now been put back
together, ( a bit more properly this time) and is a nice little "play in the
rain" guitar. It fits sloppily into either a gig bag, or a hard plastic
case that I got for it, and now it has the strap lock that was formerly
"Blackie's". This guitar has a leather strap.....but NOTHING gets wasted
around here!!!

Not even a "twang",

~~R
