Today is Memorial Day, a so-called holiday (in the U.S.) to honor veteran's,
both past and present. Unfortunately, most school age kids and many parents don't
even know what this is all about, and don't seem to care really. I saw where a
survey showed most school kids had no clue at all and several thought it was "the
day they open the swimming pools." Nothing more.

This has gotten more and more prevalent since WWII. What has happened to
patriotism? Is it too old fashioned to love your country and show respect to
those who have served to protect our freedoms?

The Korean War is now termed "The Forgotten War", and it is becoming just that.
It barely is mentioned in history, or in conversation, anymore and it deserves
better attention. (I know, as I was a part of the Korean "conflict" as they now
term it. We lost 56,000 young men in this "conflict".)

Then along came the Viet Nam War, a big mistake in our getting into it, but a
long drawn-out war regardless, (much like the one we are now in), When it was
finally over and the boys came home, did they get a rousing welcome like the WWII
boys? Nope. Instead the American people took out their grief and frustrations on
the the poor old GI's as soon as they hit U.S. soil and this climate has
continued to this day. They are blamed for the war itself, when most didn't have
the foggiest notion as to why we ever got involved.

I challenge each and every person in the United States to pause for a minute or
two, lay down your hot dog, turn down your loud music, and think of what I have
just reiterrated, and to pray for our boys now in Iraq. Sure, they volunteered,
but they are there in the place of us, just like if they had been forced to be
there. They deserve our support because they are doing the job of protecting
their country, preserving our freedom, and carrying out God's will, as they know
it. There is no higher calling.

(I know this is a reso oriented list, but I beg to post this message anyway,
as I believe it is important to all us old reso pickers. After all, where would
we be if things had turned out different and we weren't allowed to play our music
at all. It would be a sad situation.)
