From:Mike Thompson <hurricanemikethompson @.......com>

Hi folks:

I can only lend a hand and do my small bit like anyone else,...but it's the
law of 250: if each contact tells someone else, then maybe it will build a
network big enough of vigilant folks that will help Clem get his axe(s)
back.

I honestly think it's too conspicuous an instrument, (especially the
Beard,..), therefore a tricky heist to pull off easily.

Here's my theory:

If the thief had plans to shove the proceeds up his nose or into his
veins,..he can't hold out too long for the realistic high value of the
instrument. His habit won't let him. Nor will the prospect of being caught
with stolen goods. Besides: People just don't have that kind of cash on
them. Look how long it took most of us to save and save for our own
treasures. He'll be flogging the booty at a ridiculous mega-loss to shed it
quickly. Not much choice.

Anybody who knows a little about reso or who's ever even wanted one, has got
to notice the fine quality before hastily shelling out fifty bucks to some
nervous stranger in a pub. Beard is just too big a name to not know. The
lap-steel might have less of a chance since attics still yeild them from
time to time.

There's got be questions and hesitation to add to the thief's frustrations
in moving it fast. Meanwhile, the perpetrator is losing precious time while
the circle starts to close in around him. All the while, the network of
those who are becoming aware of the theft is expanding.

That instrument would scream "HOT!!" to anyone with half a brain. So the
felon might find a bit of trouble selecting his market. Who ( in the general
public,..),is going to buy a high end reso anyway? If it was a Martin,
there's a gzillion amateur pickers who might be interested. Easier to hide
since their more common... But a reso? Unless you already play..why even
waste the money? You might hate it; spanish guitar is quicker to learn and
use.

If the guy finds a party who does play,...chances are that said reso-player
already knows about the caper and will report it to police. He would likely
question the "bargain of the century". I could be wrong or too optimistic
but it would seem that almost all serious reso fans subscribe to this list.
And they all know what's going on just by opening their mail.

Other than that,...the new purchase will either never see the light of day (
jams, gigs etc.) or will be questioned by somebody somewhere if it ever
does. Just someone swooning over the axe will draw maybe unwanted attention
to it and ultimately to the new buyer.

Pawnshops and music stores will now be on the lookout for really cheap
high-end and rare instruments. Something's gotta click in someones's head
somewhere.

I notified a number of stores in the GTA, including The Twelfth Fret, where
Clem purchased his MA6. Grant, the proprietor, was saddened by the news but
will keep an eye out as will the rest.

It's now up to us and others in spreading the word and helping everyone keep
watchful. Festivals are a good place to start. Tottenham Bluegrass is coming
up at the end of June..the executive members here, at least, are well aware
of this heist. Those axes are bound to show up. Let's all keep a good
thought for Clem!

Cheers!
