Mark,
Gene was THE master of slants. It sounds to me like
he was doing a couple of quick forward rolls at the
12th fret on the top 3 strings, while slanting the bar
quickly from straight across to 2 frets up on the 1st
string (a C chord), then back to straight across,
letting the strings ring all the while. A lot like
Josh's series of licks on "Cuttin' the Grass."
