I believe this is the technique taught to Steel Guitar players. It is the
technique that I was taught. For some reason it appears awkward to see a person
bend their wrist. I have been playing a Frets 14/12 Strings 1&2 slant and cannot do that twisting my wrist.
Besides my arm is not long enough to twist my wrist on a forward slant below
fret 5 nor can I easily contort my wrist for a reverse slant above fret 12.
In summary, I am very comfortable moving the bar between my finger and thumb
versus twisting the wrist and have never dropped my bar doing this.
But to each their own, whatever works for you.
