I'm usually sitting back lurking and listening to you pros...

I don't have an mp3 player, but have done the same thing with 500-600
CDs, converted them all to mp3. I just finished converting 19 old
homepsuns tapes I never listen to anymore to mp3's this past week. Many
cars don't even have tape players anymore. I use them in a few ways:

I copy the mp3's to a CD and listen to them driving to work. A CD will
hold about 700 minutes of music or 15-20 CDs. Your CD players must be
mp3 capable. Those lost CDs you just mentioned are easier to get to
now, as I scan the mp3's. I've got them all files by artist/album name.

When I work on a song, I pull the mp3 up in cool edit or adobe audition
and select parts for repeating or slowing down, changing keys, tweaking
the tuning. Much more convenient than sitting in front of a stereo.

Then when I'm looking for a song, I do a search of the files (mp3's).
Takes a few seconds to search several thousand songs. This works as
long as the song titles were spelled right in the first place.

For the reso content, I recently assembled a couple CDs for a trip of my
favorite dobro and flatpick tunes.

And since I'm using my mp3's, most of my CDs remain in new condition.

My problem now is finding time to play or listen to all this music.

Enjoy that mp3 player. Initially you'll invest a lot of time ripping
every thing. Now I usually rip my CDs as I buy them. Doesn't take a
lot of time to keep up.

Dave

I finally sucummbed to an mp3 player (Creative ZenV 8GB) and I've
been furiously ripping some of my CD collection. I've come
across a few titles that I haven't listened to in a while.

The latest is 1994's "The Great Dobro Sessions".. Sadly, I've
just realized that 1/3 of the participants have died since this
Grammy award winning project was released. This was really a
mind blowing album for a lot of us back then. If you don't own
it...well, you must.

Now...I think I'll be listening to Tone Poems III w/ David
Grisman, Mike Auldridge and Bob Brozman. Haven't heard that in a
long time..

I've got an "all reso" playlist on the player. Shuffle mode for
Auldridge, Douglas, Rosenberg, Johnson, Oz, Ickes, Graves, Van
Meter, The Resoguit compilation (remember?), a bunch of stuff
some of you have been kind enough to share, and my stuff :-)

I'm realizing that 8GB was not enough!!
