Well I just spoke with Frank Harlow who was the driving force behind
this project to begin with, and since I had kind of resurrected it, I
thought the right thing to do was to give Frank a "heads up". As I
had suspected and perhaps was even told by Frank early on the
legalities of going commercial with this were never finalized,
however Frank has exclusive rights to distribute it as he sees fit to
do. As I had suspected and as is the case with many musicians Gene
had no major health insurance and therefore there were tremendous
medical bills that remain unpaid. I have no idea of the statue of
limitations on this type of thing however I can see the vultures
circling at any mention of commercial sale of the tape. Frank
indicated that Gene wanted this project done to provide some income
for his mother who is still alive and living in NC, but this never
became a reality due to the lack of the legal requirements, and now
the threat of the bill collectors. Frank added that if any monies
were ever to be realized from this project the first thing he would
have done would be to have a headstone placed on Genes grave. Folks I
think that all of us in the Dobro community should contribute
whatever we can for the purchase of a headstone for Genes grave that
would do him proud. I will further discuss this with Frank and see if
he would be willing to accept any funds that would be contributed for
this project, so please don't send anything at this time I will post
again at a later date regarding this idea. Frank did indicate that
anyone who has purchased or purchases in the future a
Harlow instrument is eligible and will receive a free copy of this
tape, just contact Frank if you are a past purchaser and he will take
care of you.
