I would try to avoid the file... most likely it won't profile the bottom of
the slot in a favorable way. I would first try to use an actual top string
(whatever diameter you use) in a sawing motion to deepen the slot a bit. If
you, by chance, have a .018-.020 wound string, that would be (IMO) the
preferred way of deepening the slot. Don't go too deep or you could get
playability or tunability (new word) issues.
