Whoa Lennie,
You need to be more specific, I thin Brad was talking about strings
and string slots.
The inserts need to be tightly seated so they are hard to remove from
the spider. And on top of that, a drop of glued is often used. If you
want to save the inserts, remove the spider from the cone and place a
bit of scrap wood against the part above the spider and given it a
quick tap with a small hammer. The insert should break free.
If you don't want to unscrew the spider from the cone, then anything
you do potentially can damage the delicate edge of the cone, but
might be worth to it if you think you have perfect setup otherwise. I
do not recommend doing this. But you might be able to take a small
chisel or even an exacto knife, insert the point into the side of the
saddle so as to get a good grip and ...very gently... lever up the
saddle to free it.
