Another noob question here, this time regarding string gauge for low open G
and D tunings.
I just purchased my first squareneck (Regal RD-52 - I was going to get a
Gold Tone PBS Deluxe, but would have had to wait for it to be shipped - I
got a better deal on the Regal in terms of price anyways).
I've only had the guitar for a day. One of the first things I did was tune
to the "low" open G (DGDGBD). I haven't played on the standard G tuning much
yet so it's not my favorite. Anyways, I immediately noticed the lowest D
string was very rattly on my steel (apparently from the slack), seemingly
much more so than the same on my roundneck (which I do often play lap style
with a steel and this tuning, which is strung with non-G tuning dobro
strings). I am wondering if changing the strings on my squareneck to non-G
tuning dobro strings will help much with this or if I should go for an even
heavier gauge string. Or is this more likely something that I need to work
on in terms of my technique? Anyone got any advice for a nooblet? Thanks a
bunch.
J
