Hiya Brad,
I think Jim Warren is referring to what I like to think of as the "KISS
Principal". That's (politely stated as) Keep It Simple Sonny!!! I have a Jeff
Newman 2 VHS course that I got when I was playing Pedal Steel, and almost the
entire first 45 min tape is spent with Jeff telling you when & what NOT to play!
Sometimes one or two tastefully applied and well placed notes are so much more
effective than EVERY note the particular player has managed to find, STUFFED into
a particular point in the song. Mike Auldridge, Jr. Barber are masters of this
"make the most of every note" technique. This to my old ears is so much
more pleasing than the sound of an "angry" dobro.
Different strokes etc. and your mileage may certainly vary,
Richie
Ps, for those who've never heard him play, Oswald's memory is alive and well in
the playing of Jim Warren!
Pps, if we all had exactly the same tastes in life.......you guys would all be
after MY girl!!
ducking for cover.........
