I had the pleasure of being at the Awards Luncheon and watching Mike receive his
award. There were others receiving the Distinguished Service Award during that
lunch, but they saved the best for last. It was a very moving ceremony and there
wasn't a dry eye in the room after Rob's speech and Mike's acceptance. As you
might all expect, he was a true gentleman in his acceptance speech and once again
gave us all a model to follow, not only in how to play our instruments but also
in how to conduct ourselves with our audiences and fellow musicians.
I'd also like to thank Betty and CBA for arranging the reso picking circle and
reception in Mike's honor. I had to attend an educatator's workshop, so had to be
late but did make it in time to pick a few tunes with some wonderful reso
players. It was fun to watch them pass around their instruments to eachother
during the jam, very much like a family.
While there were many highlights for me at IBMA, the reso highlight this year
was in meeting Mr. Benoit - what a nice man and talented luthier.
