I'm using Beard Special 28's strings from Paul Beard Resophonic Guitars.
They're a perfect sound for the bluegrass type stuff that I do but the wound
strings are dead after about 2-3 sets of hard playing which is typical of
phosphor bronze strings. Then they sound like rubber bands. This dead string
thing is an issue for players like Howard Parker and me who like fresh
strings all the time in public. Fresh, crisp strings are nice to record
with. Practice behind closed doors, however, is a different game. While
practicing behind closed doors, just keep the old strings on til they rot
because no one will hear them. Then change 'em before you go out in public
if you want. Try different strings til you find what you like.
