Hi Uncle Phil Are you talking about your custom set or I guess any set 2-3
sets or hours?
I use medium Elixer strings on my banjo and they don't change tone for a week or
so, but some say they are not as bright to start with but I like the tone they
give me.

I'm not a fan of coated strings, but the life span is really
long for the Elixer and Infinity strings if you are looking
for longer duration between changes. Wiping strings off with
rubbing alcohol after each use will also help the life span
of a phosphor set.
