Here's an update:
Purple Haze evacuated yesterday, up the coast a bit to Carlsbad, which was a
nice temporary home because it actually had clear air and stars, with smoke
streams visible to the north and south. Some 300,000 of our fellow San
Diegans have evacuated from their homes, as well. Today, our area was
designated safe to return to, so we came home, and are once again spending
our time in closed rooms with air filters running full force. The smell of
smoke is strong, but the Santa Ana winds have died down for the moment,
which means the fires probably won't be coming our way. Many have lost
their homes, though, and we still have two really major fires in the county
that are essentially 0% contained, along with a couple of smaller fires.
Thanks to everyone who sent their wishes our way.
Betty
