I've been following this discussion about alternative tunings and found it
very interesting and informative. However, performing 3-4 set gigs in a
band keeps you moving pretty quickly from song to song, with little time in
between to retune. Mandolin players do this by keeping two mandolins with
them, with one having the alternative tuning. There are a couple of Monroe
classics, e.g., Get Up John, that require the alternative tunings. So, we
just might have to buy more than one reso ( oh, shucks!) in order to have
one we can switch to quickly for the alternative tuning. I'm trying to back
my way into justifying buying a Beard MA-6 or Benoit to keep my DeNeve
company on stage...

Yep, I hear ya. I got Virginia (Tut Taylor Virginian) for gigs, and Hazel
(OMI 60DS) for the alternate tunings. But let's not forget Lassie (GT Beard
PBS) for outdoor jams and such and Regina (Regal RD-45MS) who has become my
at work practice dobro and my autograph book.
