ResoSummit was a kick... it was good to see Mike again.. and
this time he brought Elise
with him. She looks great. I managed to catch up with her at
the Station Inn while Mike
was pickin' with Claire Lynch.
Rob Ickes and 3 Ring circle blew me away. He's an awesome
player and those guys
(Andy Lefwich, mandolin--Dave Pomeroy--bass) were equally
awesome.. great stuff..
mostly jazz stuff.. their version of Stevie Wonder's "Isn't
She Lovely" knocked me out!
and the next night Andy Hall and the StringDusters did an
equally great job.. this kid
I don't think is 30 yet... and he's an incredible monster!!
it's enough to depress an old
guy like me.. : > ) But, all those guys are following in
Mike's footprints... it was such
a blast to have him get that IBMA Distinguished Achievement
Award.. boy, was that
long overdue. His health seems to be holding up and that's
the best news he can
have at this point.. he's doing a great job keeping the big C
under control. He told
me that Winnie Winston opted for no treatment and died 7 years
later... sigh-h-hh
it's a great time for Reso, Russ... and it's about time. I
played banjo for 30 plus years
so I told MIke it's his fault I'm not a better reso player
because he didn't kick my butt
back in the 70s when I was hanging out in his basement while
we fooled around
with pedal steel.. I only got to do that on trips from the
West Coast as I was passing
through, but it was great fun.
Now, if I could just get some kid to practice scales for
me... : >)
Best,
Tom
