Hey Dean,
I started to "learn the neck" by practicing scales! I've got a longgggg way to
go, but you'd be surprised, once you get into it, things become easier to
understand. Of course, I already (supposedly) know how to play, I've been
playing all my life, but learning the "patterns" makes it easier to understand.
Just proves, you're never to old to learn.....
