I had the good fortune to spend the majority of my time at the ResoSummit with
Mike Auldridge. He says, "I don't play loud. But I can play fast. If I want
loud, that's what microphones are for." His touch on his 6 and 8 strings is much
lighter than most modern, aggressive players. And the MAS resos respond to his
lighter touch with good dynamic range (volume highs and lows) and balance (tone
highs and lows). That's how he wanted his guitar designed. It's what he got.
But, yeah, you can wail on it. It might not have the presence of some of the big
hollow-bodies, the E included, but it is a delight to play. Listen to Mike play
it and tell me I'm wrong. If the only way you're gonna get your jollies is to do
battle with banjos, then maybe a MAS isn't right for you. Mike decided long ago
that he likes it better when banjos aren't around.
I have several resos. Soundwell. Open body. Sound posts. MAS. Baffles and
no baffles. Plywood and solid wood. If I play 'em the same, they sound
different. I have no idea what I want to sound like, so no single one is perfect
for me. But if I only could keep one, it would be the MAS. I think.... ;~)

evenly balanced guitar out there are does not require an agressive
attack to get the most out of the guitar...It has huge bass end and just
glistens up on the high end. You can certainly play this guitar
agressively, no problemo..Ask Jerry. I remember the Birchmere gig with
him on the "Fluxanator".
