I have not had the good fortune to play a Beard, but i have played custom solid
wood and laminate guitars, both resos and acoustic and as most long time players
know, its a matter of choice not brand or price that really make the final
decision,as well as the sound.I have a Larivee hand made acoustic that i bought
in 1978 that i love.Since i bought it i have played many great sounding and
playable guitars, but i still like mine the best.Recently i bought a Fender import
reso with pickups already installed. From the factory workmanship was ok but
lacked in sound and playability. So i took it to a custome reso builder and had
him do an upgrade for me..RE; Quarterman cone and spider with bridge saddle.A
higher bone nut, heavyer guage strings all with a proper set up,for $250.00.Now it
sounds and plays great.I had a chance to compare with his custom and really, for
the huge dollar difference my reso is great. If i finally master the beast
properly i would like to by a custome model, but util i perfect the touch etc.I'M
HAPPY PICKIN AN GRININ...Carl

He says, "I don't play loud. But I can play fast. If I want loud, that's what microphones are for." His touch on his 6 and 8 strings is much lighter than most modern, aggressive players. And the MAS resos respond to his lighter touch with good dynamic range (volume highs and lows) and balance (tone highs and lows). That's how he wanted his guitar designed. It's what he got. But, yeah, you can wail on it. It might not have the presence of some of the big hollow-bodies, the E included, but it is a delight to play. Listen to Mike play it and tell me I'm wrong. If the only way you're gonna get your jollies is to do battle with banjos, then maybe a MAS isn't right for you. Mike decided long ago that he likes it better when banjos aren't around.> > I have several resos. Soundwell. Open body. Sound posts. MAS. Baffles and no baffles. Plywood and solid wood. If I play 'em the same, they sound different. I have no idea what I want to sound like, so no single one is perfect for me. But if I only could keep one, it would be the MAS. I think.... ;~)> > --Chris in Pair-O'-Dice> > Howard Parker <hlpdobro@intr.net> wrote:> The Auldridge guitar, who's exterior dimensions are the same is the most > evenly balanced guitar out there are does not require an agressive > attack to get the most out of the guitar...It has huge bass end and just > glistens up on the high end.
