Gate checked my Guernsey in a gig bag and my Larrivee flattop in a
hard case on the small plane out of Minneapolis to Nashville. No
problems at all. Tried to gate check on my way home and the flight
attendant said to just take them both onboard (along with my regular
carry-on daypack) as the flight wasn't full. Northwest Airlines.
I've always taken my guitars onboard as it's usually just one and the
planes are usually bigger ones with plenty of overhead room. I think
as long as you don't check your guitar at the ticket counter, you're
probably fairly safe. Although I was a little nervous gate checking
the Guernsey as I had planned to take that onboard until they told me
that the storage bins were way too small for a guitar and there were
no closets. It all worked out. - Dave
