Another tip I received from Paul Beard several years ago:
Tape together a couple/few layers of corrugated cardboard about an inch or two
wide and long enough to cover both sound holes (mine's about 2"x7"). Make the
layers thick enough that the when slid under the strings, the strings will put a
little pressure on the cardboard, and hence the sound hole screens. This
prevents the screens from popping out and, as Paul described it, "dancing all
over the top" - necessitating a refinish job!
