Some of you may remember my aluminum Dobro from Rudy's workshop in the late 60s
(according to the note that so kindly Pete provided from Don Young)... One of
it's unique features is that it has 4 F-holes...
I was jamming with it at Huck Finn early this summer and got called away for a
moment. Setting it down, I thought to rest my fingpicks on top of the Dobro --
and of all things, the thumbpick slipped through one of the F-holes into the
body... This is a honking Dunlop nickle-silver .025 thumpick. Growning, I went
to take care of the business, then upon arriving back, started wondering how on
earth I was going to get my thumbpick out.
Figuring it would take hours but not wanting to disassemble the cone, I shook
the Dobro a bit, then turned it over. I was dumbfounded when the thumbpick
immediately fell right back out. My jamming partners and I laughed about that
for hours.
After this experience, I'm starting to believe in Santa Claus again.
