Jay,
The settings I use are
In Recording source and Parameters,
check Recording source "software"
check "Convert using 'Recording format' specified below"
optional check "Remove silence..."
Recording format
MPEG-3
(I use) 192 kbits, 44,100 Hz, Stereo
This may be overkill. When I started, the default was so much poorer that one
of my editing programs would not handle the file.
You may need to download a Codec to do the conversion to MP3. The Help section
gives some free download sources.
I seem to be using a "Creative MP3 Codec," which may have come with my sound
card. I also have installed,
Fraunhofer IIs-MPEG Layer 3 Codec
Blade Encoder (dll)
Lame Encoder (dll)
If you can't get it to record with the "Software" box checked, check
"Sound Board" and try to find the right sound board mixer settings there.
And I will dig out some more, harder-to-find settings to get it working via
software recording. Once you get it to do that, write down the settings. It is
a real pain to change something and spend a weekend trying to get it back.
Don't
ask how I know this...
