OMI made such an animal back in the 80s, and
8-stringers too.
Friar Tut (Taylor) made himself a 12-stringer, but it
had paired and octave strings like a "regular" 12
string folk guitar.
The main problem was getting enough room under the
hand rest to spread the strings far enough apart so
you could hit the one you wanted.
