I bought a new OMI "Hound Dog" (#316) from Buck Graves in 1970. I think he
really wanted to keep it for himself after playing it, but, being the
totally honest man that he was, he sold it to me anyway. I say this because
at every show I went to he always asked if I had brought my guitar, which
of course I had, and then he'd ask if I would mind if he played it on stage
for the performance. You can imagine my answer! It's all yours!! I kept
hoping that maybe that guitar would learn some neat licks and pass it on to
me! It got Lester Flatt's attention at Sunset Park one time. In the middle
of a show Lester said, "Josh, Where'd you get that guitar?" Buck replied,
"It's Pete's". Lester then replied, "Well, I believe I'd keep that one!".
My point of all this is that I believe I paid $650 for the Hound Dog. That
would be about $3,450 in today's money. So, at $4500 for Jerry's entry
level guitar, and up to $7500 with all the bells & whistles, that's pretty
pricey. BTW, I still have the Hound Dog and it's name is "Josh".
