what the chord progression IV-#IVdim- V means is, in the key of G, C
(the 4 chord) C#dim. (the sharp 4 dim. chord) D (the 5 chord). The C
would be a major chord, the C# dim. would be a diminished chord with
the C# functioning as the root of it (dim. chords don't really have
roots but let's not go into that for now), and the D would be a major
chord. Notice how those notes lead you from the 4 to the 5 chord with
the dim. chord tone as a "passing" tone. Diminished chords often work
that way, to lead you chromatically to another chord. That's not the
only thing they do but it's a good place to begin seeing how you can
work them into your playing...oj
PS "can't figure out how a Four chord in a progression can be SHARP,
and then diminished"
The four chord in this examples is not sharp. the chord following the
four is a sharp four and its type (major, minor, seventh, diminished)
is diminished.
