They're good, but not as good as a National.  There's nothing like  
them in a similar price range - I don't know of any other guitar  
manufacturer making a squareneck tricone in that price range.  As  
with all Johnson resophonic guitars, they can be improved by  
installing better parts (cones, nut, bridge insert), but you get a  
lot for your money even if the guitar is stock.
