LRP -
I have a Standard. I've played the Deluxe once. It has a very nice sound,
but the Standard compares well in my opinion. I guess the big difference
is the materials - the Deluxe is curly maple and the Standard is mahogany.
An earlier lister said something about the mahogany looking better (I
agree) and keeping a nicer sound as it ages (I have no idea). I'm not a
luthier, and can't speak knowledgably about the relative merits of
different woods. I do know that the Standard is a great instrument and a
terrific value.

Hey Mike Shannon, was that a deluxe model, or the 'other' one?
I'm hot on the trail, but, may wait to get a custom Randy Allen at MUCH
more money . . . . do I need an improvement beyond my Johnson w/upgrade
(please, people, and you KNOW who you are, lolol), n want to spend bucks on
the Gold Tone, NOW, or, do I wait a year for the BIG BOX AX OF ALLEN . . .
. I'm so torn. I'll sort it out, but would take ANY input from listers on
THAT one.
(Back To Mike) My understanding is they are the same instruments, with the
Deluxe having prettier inlay and beading, color, etc.
Local music shop had two in February, one deluxe, one not. They were real
low then, $599 and $699.
Now, the deluxe is out the door with hardshell case at $800. I played both,
and the deluxe again a few times in the past month. Love it.
Thanks in advance for your reply. <smile>
