I'll add that Pete Grant has some fine work available on his website.
And, KBAR with The All Girl Boys (out of print no doubt) but more recently with
Mountain Laurel. There's some FINE music and dobro work out of that band!!!
Trouble At The Mine is the project I'm thinking of.
And if you don't have the The Biscuit Burners first two cd's yer missing some
hot, hot music and dobro work, too. Fiery Mountain Music and A Mountain Apart are
the project names. *G* I understand the new configuration of The Biscuit Burners
with Bill Cardine, Mary Lucey and Dan The Git Man features a stellar fiddle champ
and gal sanger, and at times a well schooled 5 Picker who dubs on other
instruments, as does the fiddle player.
I'll Echo Dobro. Ya gotta have St. Mike's Dobro. N listen to a young David
Bromberg's guitar work all over that project, too. Incredible album!!! Blues And
Bluegrass is good too, but Dobro cuts it, man, you might as well buy them both,
along with his third solo project which name escapes me, not to MENTION all his
work with Seldom Scene, Chesapeake, and other configurations which lately include
again, The WildWood Flower herself Emmy Lou Harris, who's music I've loved since
Gram Parson's daze. *G*
Hmmm . . . one I really trip out on that's quite a 'new sound' is Jimmy
Heffernan, Mike Auldridge and The Pedal Bro Hoss Hisself-Hal Rugg. The project
name is The Resocasters, and it's great stuff!!!
Tut Taylor-anything he did with Norman Blake, or Red, White & Bluegrass (long time ago, Grant And Ginger Boatwright grouping both Tut and Norman played with)
Tut And Aeroplane/New Grass stuff!
Randy Kohrs.
Andy Hall with The Infamous String Dusters.
Matt Ledbetter w/Lonesome River Band.
Josh Swift is now with Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver.
Phil Ledbetter is a must listen to, of course.
BLUEGRASS ALBUM BAND PROJECTS!!! *G*
I'm sure Wayne's list he compiled covers MOST of these folks, but I thought I'd
list a few top of mind to me in my small collection to date . . .
Having said that, there are at least ten members of this list who have their own
bands (Howard Parker, I need to hear some Howard Parker, and more Moo Twangs,
too), have played in other bands, and have a wealth of projects available which
showcase their reso work and outstanding music, in general!
I've collected a TON of live shows from internet sources I won't mention onlist
here . . . shows from the 60's/70's and later which feature the likes of
Auldridge, Douglas, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Stuart Duncan, Mark Shatz, Tony Rice,
Doyle Lawson, JD Crowe, and many others in varying configurations. It's quite an
education to listen to THAT stuff!!!
And, there are a LOT of video's of IBMA Awards Winners hosted by John Hartford
from the late 80's and early 90's that were on cable tv back in the day from a
show called American Music Shop. The House band was mostly Mark O'Connor, Jerry
Douglas, and included anyone else you could think of. And the list of guests week
after week was incredible.
Along those lines, Texas Connections was a cable show hosted by Jerry Jeff
Walker, and HE had lots of reso related guests thru out his shows.
N then, there's all the country dobro influences from the 40's/50's forward. Of
which I have little knowledge of, but now know it's there, due to the
edifications from the members of this list who share so freely of their
experiences, music, and knowledge.
I'd buy The Stephen Sisters first project just to listen to Rob Ickes tear up
their cover of Kim Richey's 'Those Words We Said'. . . I DID buy it, it's a
killer song.
Sigh. So much music.
I haven't even touched 1% of what's out there, either.
All Twanged Up, Left Coast *G*
Truly, Golden, This Age. *G*
Thank you Howard, and all listers. I bow to your wow!
