Interesting indeed. The Tennessee article calls the deal a "merger,"
but the CEO will be the same Danish man who heads TC. Thus, I think a better
description would be "acquisition."
I contacted a Danish sound engineer friend, and here's his reply to
me:
Yeah. TC is a Danish company mainly known for its DSP hardware and
software products for music production. I wasn’t aware that they were
this big now and it’s a surprising move, since they generally don’t
produce physical instruments. TC is very quality focused, so if
anything it should increase the quality and push Gibson against a more digital
approach. Example: Robotic auto-tuning of guitars, midi compatible
guitars, guitars with build-in high resolution FX etc.
Maybe Gibson resos will improve???
