I find a real good foot pat is a key to rhythm.

  Subject: [RESOGUIT-L] Learning 16th notes

  Hi,

I was hoping some of you had some input on learning to stay in time with 16th
notes. I'm very much a newbie to rhythm in general, so struggle with it
generally. I'm told to use 1e &a, 2e &a, etc., but that seems awfully difficult to keep up with. Maybe I just need to slow it down until I can get it, then speed up from there, but it's too tempting to just play it the way it should sound to me, and the counting greatly takes away continuity and focus on other things. I've also been told to use a system like du de, or du-ta de-ta, which they say takes away the counting aspect. This seems to make it a little easier, but not much. This is relatively easy if I was playing a roll that cycles every four notes, but for every three notes, the downbeat alternates, which really screws me up. HELP!!! PLEASE. Thanks.

  Sean
