With apologies to Norman Blake I hit the "shift key" by mistake, (duh) and that
last tune on Andy Halls SOUNDS OF THE SLIDE GUITAR cd should read
GREEN LIGHT ON THE SOUTHERN / BONY CROSSING THE ALPS
It's a great example of how "Slide" guitar or back when I started, "Hawaiian"
guitar should be played. I've got to check out these Bear Creek Hawaiian
guitars.

Hey List,
I finally got a minute to sit down with Andy's new cd, and right off, I'll tell
you the title is misleading. I should have been titled SMOKIN' Sound(s) of the
Slide Guitar! Wow Andy way to go!! Golden Age of Resoguitar indeed!
I remember 10 or so years back, when I was getting started in resoguitar, and
I'd go into the Can-Tab Lounge on Mass. Ave. right outside of "Havahhad" Sq. and
listen to fellow lister (but mostly lurker) Gregg Tucker-Kellog, and on occassion
Andy Hall, and I'd just have "happy ears" all night long. (We miss you
Gregg....really!)
Well folks, Andy Hall has certainly gone on to bigger and better things, and
he's sharing them with us thru this album.
I don't consider myself "qualified" to review cd "projects", not by any stretch
of the imagination, but I'll tell you all that Andy Hall's newest called SOUND OF
THE SLIDE GUITAR is something everyone who likes these guitars should hear.
The album has EIGHT original tunes (and Andy, there's nothing "dusty" about your
picks sir!) and Andy plays several different guitars, mostly a mahogany Meredith,
but I particularly liked his use of a 1929 National Tri Cone on the traditional
tune "Deep Elem Blues." That for me is worth the price of the album by itself.
Now I'm listening to Andy play a Bear Creek Hawaiian guitar on a Norman Blake
tune(s) called Green Light on the Southern?Bony Crossing the Alps. Wow! Oh yeah
this just this second finished and my immidiate thought is "play it again!"
I hope someone better qualified than me shares his or her thoughts on this
album, but for myself, I recommend it highly.

Oh yeah, there's some great vocals on this disc. O;-) my ears are still
