style together to emulate the three finger sound of the
Bluegrass banjo 8 beat rolls.. i.e.,
       1,2,3 1,2,3 1,2... etc.. it's a lot of work, when three
fingers can do it in a lot less effort. However,
the sound of flatpicking can be harder than finger
picking..on average... JD Crowe excepted..
there is another problem with crosspicking... do you go
down down up or down up up..
Jesse, I think, goes down up up... others, like Scott Hambly
of the old Redwood Canyon Ramblers
goes just the opposite from Jesse.. anyway one of them goes
2 ups the other goes 2 downs.
John Duffey used to finger pick his mandolin to get that
effect...otherwise, he flatpicked it.
there's certainly more to the crosspicking sound than one
would ordinarily think..
