Hi List,
Well, somehow the regional band I play for got ourselves booked into Joe Val,
and like Wally Hughes, I got paid, as a "fellow entertainer," to watch, (from
closeup backstage yet) ***BOTH*** Seldom Scene who closed the show Sat. night,
and Blue Highway who closed the show on Sun. night.
We, Pine Hill Ramblers, were schedueled to open the Sun. show with a Gospel Set,
and while I was watching Fred Travers work his magic with Seldom Scene, late Sat.
night, I found myself thinking....."migawd, the next musician standing on that
same spot on the stage is gonna be.......me!" ***YIKES!*** (Thank God for
nightfall, in between to give some of Fred's notes a chance to dissipate a
bit....whew!)
As usual, the Joe Val Festival had some incredible bands, too many for me to try
to list, but you can check them out at www.bbu.org or us out at
www.pinehillramblers.com and there's a link to Joe Val.
Both Rob and Fred got a chance to "meet" ol "Sadie" Sho-Bro and I do believe
they were impressed with her humongeous dimensions, and her more than decent
sound. "Sadie" pulled up lame tho, mid Sat. afternoon, during a rehearsal for
our Sun.set, and the buzz in her fourth string seemed to be caused by a loose
tension screw which was easily corrected by 3/4 turn tighter. I usually only
turn that screw 1/4 turn at a time and where this was the first "festival
jam-session battlefield picking" since I put in new inserts, I probably just
didn't get the tension right in the first place. Rob said she sounded fine, to
him.........
WHATTAWEEKEND! A much needed "dobro-bluegrass-FIX" for yours truly!
Life is good in Moo Hampshire, and the twangin is great,
Richie
