Subject:[RESOGUIT-L] Just pulled my Dobro out ater 40 years
Date:, February 25, 2008  03:41:16 (+0100)
From:worker <worker @.......net>

I hadn't played guitar much in the last 40 years but I ran into a fella that was
playing an old national at a farm market and I thought "Its time"
The gentleman was good enough to let me sit and play for a while.
(I shared the beer my friend had just bought from the store}, And decided
something was missing. Music...

I have a Dobro I bought probably in 72 or so its metal bodied, I had used it for
slide in a band when I was "younger" and then never thought much of it. Why we
used a Dobro in an art rock kinda band I can't remember.... Then again I don't
remember much of those years which is probably just as well

I now enjoy ragtime music and blues picking and I'm trying to relearn some
things I thought I knew once.

I would like to have the guitar gone looked at and set up.
I have heard of a shop in Indiana that is quite good.
I'm in Detroit area but I'm willing to take (or ship) the guitar
soooo would anyone like to suggest shops that specialize in resonator guitars?

I'l like to move the action down so I can pick it a bit more it needs to be
looked at after spending so long in the closet.

I'm also trying to unlearn some bad habits I have that I only just realized are
not particulary benificial to my playing... Like leaving my pinkie down on the
guitar while I pick... someone one showed me how much smoother and less tense you
picking is when you dont try to brace it with your little finger.

When I pulled out my older guitars I got quite a shock. I have an older martin
d28 a 335 gibson and I had a white strat from the 60's
I didn't realize the value of things..... I ended up selling off the strat for
25k UNREAL... I was shocked.. I was not going to play the thing and I'm not
really into collecting guitars so I sold to someone who is.. But I almost
fainted when they offered that kinda money.
Thank god I can stil find an old dobro or national for "reasonable" money. I
almost pray the resonators never get Fashionable

Any and all advice and encouragement welcomed
Thanks
Joe
