Subject:RE: [RESOGUIT-L] Dobro Chat Room

From:reso-man <reso-man @.......net>

Thanks for your kind words Joe. I am still amazed by the technology that
resulted in the creation of this room! What I'd really ***like*** to see
eventually, if this chat room that Eric has created attracts enough individuals
so that it turns into a "community" much the same way as this "Resoguit-List"
has.....would be another "forum" I guess is what I'm trying to say, for the
sharing of thoughts and ideas relating to our favorite instrument.

Obviously, there's no substitute for a "hands on" private lesson, or even a
workshop, with a qualified teacher, as there's also no substitute for learning
from one of the many courses available from people like Mike Auldridge, Jimmy
Heffernan, Rob Ickes to name but a few, but every time I pick up a dobro, I learn
something.....then it's just up to me, to use my individual taste, to keep the
good stuff, and discard the not so good stuff......O;-)

Imagine sitting at your computer, (in my case it's in my little "studio") and
being able to listen to somone play a dobro, and this could be anywhere in the
world, and to be able to type comments, questions, etc., and then when it's your
"turn"....(there's icons that clue you in).....you can click on your mike and
actually play your instrument for the others in attendance!

So you need a computer with a "sound card" and it was funny.....the first night
I checked out this room, I thought "wow" as I realized the possibilities and
heard these people, playing back and forth for each other.....I tried EVERY mic I
own.....O;-).....SM-58s....older hi impedance mics, etc. etc., and of course
nothing was compatible with my computer, ( a 3 yr. old E-Machine) but as soon as
I got a chance to get to a "Best Buy" and talk to someone in their computer
department, I ended up with a Logitech, that surprisingly plugs into my computers
USB port and awayyyyy I went!

So fellow "reso-nuts" here's yet another "tool" to use in learning more about
these dobro things. I have a friend who uses some kind of "slow downer" program,
which I'm sure most of you know about, and others who have "Band In A Box" which
I think would help develop perfect timing, and be MUCH more fun than any
metronome, so here's another "tool", as you could even consider Poobah's
wonderful List.....another "tool" to use in sharing our love and passion (and
even a bit of knowledge) about these wonderful dobro guitars.

The possibilities of this appear endless.......

Richie

ps to Tom Foote..... if you read this....it becomes immidiately obvious.....
that while you can still run.....you no longer can hide! Yeeeeeeeehawww!!!!

Ducking for cover!!! (in the nearest snowbank!)
O;-)
