The pros are the same as the cons, one has a battery and one doesn't.

I have had reso pickups with and without. If it has a battery, you have to
replace it occasionally - they last a long time. But the active pickup can
work with a broader range of equipment. Some boards or amps just need more
input than the passive has to give.

So it depends upon the stability of your environment. If you know exactly
what system you'll be plugging into, figure out which one works and go with
that. If you are often surprised with 'house' PA's and unknown equipment,
the active will bail you out sometimes.

That's my experience with the two. I currently have an active pickup
installed (pun intended). I use it at least twice a week; more if I can get
more gigs. ;)

Matt

Subject: [RESOGUIT-L] Fishman pickups?

I want to get a Fishman pickup for my reso.

What are the pros and cons of the passive vs active version?

Charlie Morris
