If you get an active pickup you need to decide whether you want the pre-amp
on-board of out-board of your instrument.
If you run through a good external pre-amp you will usually have both a high
impedance and a low-impedance output which means that you can run in to either a
conventional guitar amp or directly in to the mixing console. You probably want
to be sure that your pre-amp has a ground-lift switch on the Low-Z XLR (3 pin)
and a 1/4" TRS Hi-Z output.
Be aware that some on-board pre-amps have a fixed output impedance.
If you have feedback problems you can add a parametric EQ to your signal chain
and notch out the critical feedback frequencies (with a little practice).
I do not have experience with the Fishman resophonic pickups and hoe prone they
are to feeding back (I have only used a Don Lace pickup with my Reso's) but other
people on this forum can address this. But I know that with acoustic guitars the
pickup-placement is critical to getting the best sound. So unless your Luthier is
installing your pickup I would seek guidance about pickup placement and
installation tips too.
