Jim,
I cannot hold for long those bars with both ends
sharply slanted and a very short top. My hand cramps.
If you have one of these bars, I suggest one with a
longer top. I like the Shubb-Pearse SP-3 bar, which
is a little higher than the Stevens style, and is a
nice handful. I sharpen one of the recessed and
slightly rounded (from polishing) ends if I want to do
well-defined pull-offs, but usually use the other end,
as it is rounded just enough to allow me to slide
across the strings (e.g at C position, from open to
fretted 1st string) without snagging.
The SP-2 bar is a little higher, and easier to grab,
but has one end rounded like a round bullet steel -
which some might prefer.
Good luck with the problem.
